Growth has resulted in new and expanding institutional collections, along with private collectors who are increasingly discovering the pleasures of collecting artists’ books.

Collections projects can take several forms, from addressing a private collector’s area of interest, to selecting work for home or organizational display, to developing collections along with related programming to increase public awareness and involvement.

Past projects include my serving on panels for Public Art Project Consulting in 1999 and 2000, which selected work to install in the new Open Book building in Minneapolis. I also consulted with Phoenix Public Library as co-curator (with John Risseeuw and Louis H. Silverstein) from 1993-1996, to build PPL’s comprehensive collection of artist-made books, working with an acquisitions budget of $45,000.

My background uniquely supports collections consulting. Between 1985 and 1993 at Minnesota Center for Book Arts I curated over fifty exhibitions and organized hundreds of workshops, tours, and lecture series. Since then, my curating, writing and speaking engagements have advocated for works of excellence, and explored the larger artistic and cultural forces that affect the book arts and each of us.
